This page shows how Doctor Who started off with a huge volume of output per year which was cut back heavily for the 'reinvention' at the start of the Jon Pertwee era. The 26-episode format remained for fifteen years until the second, somewhat disasterous 'reinvention' that saw the series cut to just 14 episodes a season. When the series came back for its triumphant 'reinvention' in 2005, the volume was again back up to its 1970s heyday, albeit in 45 minute episodes.
